The brain may show a weak response at the beat frequency; this response has not been shown to reliably change mental state. Sources

Headphone test

A short tone plays only in the ear you choose. If it comes from the wrong side, turn your headphones around; if you hear it in both ears, mono audio may be on in your device settings.

For the headphone test, press Start once and confirm the safety note first.

Headphone check: each trial plays three short tones. Pick the quietest one. If you get 5 of 6 trials right, you are most likely listening on stereo headphones (Woods et al. 2017).

Experiment 1 / 3

Binaural or monaural?

Listen to both techniques one after the other with the same carrier and beat. A monaural beat is in the sound itself; a binaural beat forms in perception from the difference between the tones in the two ears.
