By the Stream (no headphones)
A stream generated on your device with a soft 10 Hz monaural tone. No headphones needed.
How is it made?
- Stream (ambient sound generated on your device)
- Monaural · Carrier 200 Hz · Beat 10 Hz (Alpha)
Sound is generated on this device in real time; no files are downloaded from a server. There is a 8 s fade-in at the start and a 1 min fade-out at the end.
Evidence
D · Insufficient evidenceNo clinical support; only laboratory findings, anecdotes or a single small study.
Evidence for effects on relaxation or focus is insufficient; we offer it as a listening experience.
Evidence level D: Insufficient evidence- What do we know?
- Monaural beats produce a measurable EEG response at the beat rate; in a 16-person study it was stronger than for binaural beats, while mood did not change. The linked sources have no EEG data for isochronic tones. In people prone to mind wandering, monaural theta beats reduced mind wandering compared with a sine tone; a reduction compared with silence appeared only in a subgroup.
- What don't we know?
- Very few controlled studies test effects on relaxation or focus directly. In a surgical trial with 90 patients in Türkiye, isochronic tones did not reduce anxiety compared with no sound.
Helps mask surrounding sounds.
Evidence level B: Moderate evidence- What do we know?
- Auditory masking is an established psychoacoustic phenomenon: a steady sound raises the detection threshold of other sounds in similar frequency bands. This is why noise is used to cover ambient sounds.
- What don't we know?
- It is not clear that masking translates into protected sleep: in a 25-person lab study, adding pink noise to intermittent environmental noise worsened sleep structure further, and earplugs worked better. A systematic review warns that continuous noise may also affect hearing.
A session's level is the weakest of its linked claims; it is never raised by a strong but unrelated claim.
Keep your device volume comfortable, preferably below 60%. You can also use your device's headphone-safety settings.
