Approximate response measurement

See roughly, with a microphone, how strongly your speaker reproduces each frequency. For speakers, not headphones.

Approximate: phone and computer microphones are not calibrated; the result is the combined response of the speaker, the room and the microphone. It is not a sound-pressure or hearing measurement.

The microphone stays open only during the measurement, with echo cancellation and automatic gain requested off. No audio is recorded, stored or sent; only band averages remain on screen.

Measurement

  1. Set the speaker to your normal listening level; start low.
  2. Place the phone or computer facing the speaker, about one metre away.
  3. The measurement takes about 10 seconds: first pink noise plays, then the room's background noise is measured.
